Don’t Look Up – a dark comedy with so much more

Let’s talk about Don’t Look Up.

I just finished it today and I initially thought it was just a really funny dark comedy. I knew the premise and I knew it was taking a jab (a hard jab) at the current political issues in America. What I didn’t know was how spot on it really was and how incredibly sad it turned out to be.

The cast is incredible and I would have watched any movie with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence teamed up. The stupidly of politicians, celebrities, and the mass media being divided so strongly was fantastic and it was done so well that I cringed, laughed, and felt complete anxiety because it was exactly the way true life as we know it has been for the past few years.

I appreciated the Yule character (Timothée Chalamet) was the one I liked the best because he was the voice of a regular millennial who was a Christian in the purest sense. I read a fantastic article today comparing the prayers of Jason (Jonah Hill) and Yule at the very end of the film.

I really am impressed by how well a Netflix parody film touched on the topics which divide so many people and all the reasons why. While I hope 2022 is a more positive year for all of us, I think films like Don’t Look Up will be constant reminders of what life was like, especially for Americans.
